SHUKALB Supports Albanian Water Utilities Celebrating World Water Day 2022

Every year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water and it presents a unique opportunity to draw attention and create momentum that compels governments, the international community, civil society, and individuals to take action.

The theme chosen by United Nations for this year’s World Water Day was “Groundwater – Making the Invisible Visible”, drawing attention to the importance of protecting our groundwater resources. The theme is uniquely important especially for a country like Albania, which provides most of the drinking water supply from groundwater resources.

SHUKALB prepared and distributed short videos and posters with informative and awareness raising messages on the importance of groundwater, that were further used by water utilities in organizing their digital awareness campaign through their social media.  In addition, SHUKALB prepared and distributed leaflets with awareness messages, T-shirts, Tote bags, and pins with WWD logo and the logo of the water utilities, which were used by water utilities in organizing their traditional awareness campaign in their respective cities.

The efforts of the water utilities staff all over the country were also joined by groups of volunteer students who engaged in the awareness campaigns led by the water utilities in their respective cities. The students were very visible in their custom printed T-shirts bearing the logo of World Water Day. In addition, in some cities the staff of water utility visited several elementary schools briefing the students on the World Water Day and informing them on the importance of protecting the groundwater resources.
